Thank you for considering The Mountain Workshop for your school outing. Making this kind of experience available for your students requires tremendous commitment by parents, faculty and administrators. We appreciate the opportunity to work with your students and realize without your efforts it would not happen.
Mountain Workshop experiences make lasting impressions because the consequences of decisions in the outdoors are felt immediately and with guidance seen clearly. Mountain Workshop instructors strive to make the connection between lessons learned during a program and the student's life in school and at home. We guide students to reflect on their experiences, celebrate accomplishments and identify opportunities for future success.
At the Mountain Workshop, we promote cooperation, respect for individual differences and a sense of community. 'Challenge by Choice' is an essential concept underlying our programs. This doesn't mean students may opt out of activities they simply do not want to do; it means they are empowered to make final decisions on the level of challenge they choose to accept. This encourages students to try new things in a supportive atmosphere without fear of criticism. It promotes self-confidence, independence and good judgment.
Your participation in program activities is completely voluntary. However, we encourage you to take a risk, step outside your traditional role and participate in the activities with your students. This allows the students to see their teachers in a new light and provides you with the opportunity to gain new insights about your students. Whether you are an active participant or a quiet observer, it is crucial that your students confront and solve the challenges on their own.
The Mountain Workshop supplies all equipment and supervises students during program time.
Generally, teacher/chaperones should bring behavioral concerns to the attention of our staff rather than intervening in the process. This enables our staff to establish a safe and respectful environment in which to work with your students.
We ask your assistance to:
Overnight Programs: The Mountain Workshop staff is responsible for supervision from breakfast through the evening program. During free time and following the evening program, students are the responsibility of the teacher/chaperones who must sleep in close proximity to the students to enforce quiet hours and camp rules. Prior to departure, we ask that you oversee students during final camp clean up.
A signed Adult Release Form is required for your participation in our programs.
